My Experience, I am a: Certified OBM

My Client Intake status is: Open - I am looking to work with new clients

Ive been working online since: I’ve been working online since 2003. However, my experience in corporate, high tech in Silicon Valley allowed me to work from home most days as I managed several roles at once.

My history in high tech ranges from large enterprise platform corporations such as Oracle, SAP Technology, Palm Computing/3Com, Excite@Home, and Electronic Arts in positions supporting senior level executives in marketing, business development, corporate communications and investor relations. I not only supported several executives simulataneously, but also planned and coordinated small to large events/off-sites within the United States.

In 2006, I decided to work from home as a Virtual Assistant quite by accident, when I researched online for a part time position, and stumbled upon the world of Virtual Assistants. Initially my business model was to work for start-ups in the area, part-time on site and off-site. It worked well for me in the beginning, but I felt dissatisfied and stuck, and knew that I needed to make a change.

In January 2009, I decided to make a leap of faith by going completely virtual, but knew that I needed to enhance my service offerings.

I enrolled in several training courses through Hot Skills VA (Ecommerce - where I learned 1shoppingcart.com, but most importantly, having and applying a marketing mindset), and the intensive OBM online training certification; and I also enrolled in VA Classroom Internet Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Blog for Marketing using Wordpress, Facebook Pages and Virtual Events Specialist courses.

Throughout my journey this year, I have become quite passionate about helping the small business owner start and maintain his/her online business and am passionate about social media marketing.

It is my hope to not only assist the small business owner with achieving their goals and objectives, but to offer mentoring and support to local VAs in my neighborhood under the umbrella of Silicon Valley Virtual Assistant group which I created under Meetup and Ning. My goal is to educate local businesses on the value and availability of Virtual Assistants in Silicon Valley.

Why I love working as an OBM: I have always been called the “office nanny” or the Starter. I am good at looking at the big picture and focus on what needs to get done now towards completion of a project.

I am also good at structuring, organizing, and creating processes that will streamline all activities for the sake of saving me and my client’s time so that we can work on building products and services and increase revenue, brand awareness, being found online and being known as the expert in their specific field.

My Strengths and Areas of Specialty: I am a start up specialist, having worked for many start-ups in the Silicon Valley Bay Area. My experience in high tech goes back to 20 years before computers were part of a person’s workspace! I have always gravitated into marketing, sales, business development and corporate communications. HR and recruiting came later!

My other strengths are tactical, in that I am organized and can coordinate details and logistics for events, off-sites, and training sessions.

I have an HR (Human Resources) and recruiting background and am confident in the ability to seek, recruit, train and hire talented team members.

I also have a passion for social media marketing and enjoy setting up accounts, linking them, and help create interesting tweets to inspire and draw the appropriate followers. Because I have a marketing and business development background, I am always thinking of creative strategies of bringing people together for collaboration, to increase membership signups and to get the message out to the right audience using different venues and tools.

My favorite kind of client to work with is…: I seem to attract coaches and small business owners who are passionate about their products and services. I tend to coach and mentor others around me, so I think it’s natural for me to work along side a coach, mentor, a leader in their niche / industry and help them grow their business, clean up what’s not working, and get things flowing smoothly so that the path is clear for new business!

My Business Goals for this year are: Now that I’ve had a full year of full time training, my goal for this year is to complete the development of my new website CyberDivaVA.com and CyberqueenVA.com; to blog for the aspiring VA/small business owner; to help promote local VAs through my sites and blogs; and to work closely with 3 clients.

I have 2 now, and my desire is to help them achieve their objectives for 2010 - increase membership, revenue, create products and repurpose materials into a revenue making opportunity and to continue educating myself in technology by staying abreast on trends, topics via Twitter, Blogs, and conferences.
