I’ve been working online since…: I have been supporting C-Level executives in the corporate world for over 15 years and have 10 years of managerial experience including managing office employees, an airline reservation center and a travel agency. In many of my positions I took on 2 roles managing them both successfully; also I came into many positions as the first one in that position so creating it from nothing. I always enjoy this type of challenge.

Ive been working online since: I’ve been working online since 2003. However, my experience in corporate, high tech in Silicon Valley allowed me to work from home most days as I managed several roles at once.

My history in high tech ranges from large enterprise platform corporations such as Oracle, SAP Technology, Palm Computing/3Com, Excite@Home, and Electronic Arts in positions supporting senior level executives in marketing, business development, corporate communications and investor relations. I not only supported several executives simulataneously, but also planned and coordinated small to large events/off-sites within the United States.

In 2006, I decided to work from home as a Virtual Assistant quite by accident, when I researched online for a part time position, and stumbled upon the world of Virtual Assistants. Initially my business model was to work for start-ups in the area, part-time on site and off-site. It worked well for me in the beginning, but I felt dissatisfied and stuck, and knew that I needed to make a change.

In January 2009, I decided to make a leap of faith by going completely virtual, but knew that I needed to enhance my service offerings.

I enrolled in several training courses through Hot Skills VA (Ecommerce - where I learned 1shoppingcart.com, but most importantly, having and applying a marketing mindset), and the intensive OBM online training certification; and I also enrolled in VA Classroom Internet Marketing, Social Media Marketing, Blog for Marketing using Wordpress, Facebook Pages and Virtual Events Specialist courses.

Throughout my journey this year, I have become quite passionate about helping the small business owner start and maintain his/her online business and am passionate about social media marketing.

It is my hope to not only assist the small business owner with achieving their goals and objectives, but to offer mentoring and support to local VAs in my neighborhood under the umbrella of Silicon Valley Virtual Assistant group which I created under Meetup and Ning. My goal is to educate local businesses on the value and availability of Virtual Assistants in Silicon Valley.

Many Online Business Managers come to the profession from the office assistant side as former Virtual Assistants. I arrived here in August 2009 after decades of corporate and small business management experience. The work is a perfect fit for my experience and my passion: I help people organize their businesses to maximize their potential and reach successful financial outcomes.

I’ve been working online since: I started working online as a VA in my own practice, Ideal Assistant Services, LLC, in January 2004. The expertise I gained in my years in corporate, combined with my years of working in supportive online roles, have been key factors to my success in transitioning from the role of VA to Online Business Manager.

I began my administrative career as a clerk in a small branch of a large import company. My organization skills, great attention to detail, and innovative ideas on how to get things done efficiently helped me stand out and gain the reputation as the ‘go to’ person in the office. In only six short years I worked my way up to Office Manager, and eventually Branch HR Manager.

I loved that job and stayed in the HR position for several years. However, I ultimately let it go so I could take some time off while my children were small. When I returned to the workforce I secured a job in a large pharmaceutical company which I expected to love, but strangely enough, didn’t. I found that I missed the challenges of working in a small business atmosphere and longed to use all of my skills to make a real difference in a company. That’s when I discovered virtual assistance, and I knew I had found my niche in life.

Since then I have worked with as many as five businesses at a time providing services ranging from online customer service, website updates, shopping cart setup and management and newsletter creation and management, to assisting with the creation of new info-products, assisting with marketing plans, writing website copy, editing and getting books published and much more.

When I read Tina Forsyth’s book “Becoming an Online Business Manager” in the spring of 2009 I identified with it immediately. I knew I was performing at this level for a few of my clients already, and decided that certification was the next logical step for me. I jumped in with both feet, and now here I am, certified and ready for new clients and new challenges!

Ive been working online since: My first online project started back in 1996. I was part of the global team that developed the first web site for the Levi’s brand. (Yup, the jeans maker!) It was right at the beginning of when companies were figuring out how to build an online presence. It’s was the most challenging, most complex project I have ever worked on. It was amazing. After that, I enjoyed the online world purely as a consumer, until 2005. Since then I have been working with small entrepreneurial companies and have been focusing on building their online presence and their presence in the world of social media. The scope of the web sites has been smaller, but that has also allowed for agility and creative thinking.

I’ve been working online since: My entrepreneurial ways began early when I would type labels at my grandmother’s office and as an office cleaner at my grandfather’s medical building at just 10 years old. I quickly found out that I much preferred typing over cleaning tile floors with a toothbrush! And so began my lifelong passion for all things administrative.

After entering the working world, I climbed the ladder from word processor to information technology specialist, earning multiple Microsoft certifications and a degree in business management along the way. I’ve been working online since…: 2007. My first virtual position was an internet technician for large cable company. My manager asked me to assist other virtual employees with their troubleshooting duties and soon I was helping my manager coordinate schedules, meetings, and employee reviews. As a result of this, I developed a passion for assisting. I received my diploma as an Administrative Assistant and began virtually assisting business owners in 2008. This is where I learned that business IS different online than in traditional brick and mortar companies. I discovered internet marketing and social media strategies by completing both certification programs via VAClassroom.

In order to meet my business owners’ ever growing need for me to take ownership of implementing their strategy and analyzing the results, I received my Online Business Manager certification in 2010.
