My Experience, I am a: Certified Online Business Manager
My Client Intake status is: Open – I am looking to work with new clients
I’ve been working online since: Although my practice is typically full, I occasionally have an opening for true OBM work (managing, rather than taking care of tasks myself). I’ve been an OBM for over 6 years, having come from the corporate world as first a paralegal, then a project manager on multi-million dollar web development projects. I have a degree in computer information systems, and I love to learn. My background in technology, paired with my keen interest in marketing and online business, means that helping others create the business that they really want is exactly what I love to do. Although an Online Business Manager’s work is to manage your business, I have the background and skills to actually do the hands-on work when there’s a need to, although I prefer to help you brainstorm, develop new products, manage projects, manage the team, and market in this exciting, social media world.
Why I love working as an OBM: I’m an odd combination of very linear, detail-oriented, yet very creative. Working with clients as an OBM gives me the opportunity to do both. Managing projects requires attention to detail and linear steps to get things done. But looking at client materials, goals, and resources, and coming up with new product ideas is something that I really enjoy.
My Strengths and Areas of Specialty: I’m a creative techie. I love technology and I love marketing and online business. I have a degree in Computer Information Systems and am continually taking classes and studying to learn about new technology and new ways to use it to make online business easier and more cost effective. I’m a big fan of several online marketing pros and I read new marketing books regularly. People hire me for my combination of creativity and technical savvy, as well as for my sense of fair play. My first priority is to treat clients with respect and to recognize that it’s not the size of your list that matters — it’s the quality of your list. I’m a straight shooter and I believe in treating people right.
My favorite kind of client to work with is…: My favorite client is someone who is either already successful and ready to step up to bigger things, or someone who may be more of a beginner, but understands that a savvy partner like the right OBM can make a significant difference in their business. In either case, I prefer to work with clients who really want to partner with an OBM, will listen and consider my opinion and advice, and then make informed decisions as to what is best for their business. I only want to work with people who understand that the business world is changing — fast — and they know that building a community of clients is vitally important. That means that clients are treated with respect and the long term relationship is much more important than the quick, high pressure sale.
My Business Goals for this year are: This year I’d like to continue to develop my technical skills in Social Media and significantly increase the use of video for my clients.
